Organizers of the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant pulled out all the stops at Monday, transforming the night into a red carpet event and making its contestants feel like stars.
Cal State Fullerton freshman Kelsey Dysart, 19, wowed an audience at the Improv comedy club with her rendition of "Amazing Grace", finishing as Miss Brea, the first in the city in a decade.
She and fellow contestants were then whisked away in a Cinderella-style, horse-drawn carriage as dozens of friends, family and onlookers snapped shots of them as they continued on to the official after-party.
Parents Doug and Judy Dysart were joined by longtime friends who waited anxiously and proud outside the venue to watch their crowned beauty shine.
"I thought she did great – better than she gave herself credit for," Doug Dysart said, as he held a camcorder. "Standing up there in front of a lot of people is a hard thing to do."
