Volunteer Positions

The Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant is an organization made up of caring men, women and children sharing their abilites, assets, strengths, knowledge and talents for the best interest of the young women of the City of Brea.  Please consider one of the following positions. It would be as little as 30 mins. a week to a few hours.  We have part time and full time positions available for creative, strong, industrious, intelligent, talented, licensed, professionals, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and children. Everyone is welcome!

Production Volunteers:

* Co-Director of Production:  Responsible to work directly with the Executive Director to create, organize and oversee the pageant and preliminary pageant productions. To work under the direction of the Executive Director.  To oversee and coordinate all other Production Volunteers and report back to the Executive Director. To act as the production liason. Includes managing production staff under the direction of the Executive Director.

* Stage Manager: Responsible to work under the direction of the Executive Director and the Producer to manage all production volunteers and contestants during rehearsals, pageant and preliminary pageants. Responsible to communicate time lines and expectations to the volunteers and contestants regarding pageant and preliminary pageant productions. And to report the status back to the Executive Director and Producer.

* Assistant Director of Group Productions: A creative individual to work under the direction of the Executive Director, Producer and Stage Manager.  Responsible to choreograph group pageant productions. Responsible to work directly with and teach contestants and dance volunteers in the group pageant productions.

* Assistant Director of Visiting Entertainers: Responsible to work under the direction of the Executive Director, Producer and Stage Manager to coordinate, organize and aquire volunteer entertainment for pageant competion dates that is . To manage and organize entertainers on day of competitions and rehearsals. To maintain a data base of possible entertainers. To coordinate and manage the needs of each entertainment group or individual.  To include but not limited to lighting, microphone, sound board and pageant event timelines.

* Assistant Director of Set Design: Under the direction of the Executive Director, Producer and Stage Manager work as a team leader to all set design preparation. To coordinate a team of individuals, donations and community support for materials and sponsorship of designing a set for the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant event. To work together with leaders to establish a pageant theme. To maintain a data base of all volunteers and contact information. To design, build and finish a set for the Miss Brea Pageant event. To complete by scheduled time lines and report back to the Executive Director on a monthly basis.

* Assistant Director of Interviews: To work under the direction of the Executive Director to prepare, corrdinate and organize all Miss Brea Pageant interviews. To interface with each contestant in preparation for the interview portion of the Miss Brea Pageant competition. To suggest, train and aquire advise and teaching for the contestants in preparation for this event. To gain an understanding of the Miss California/Miss America interview process and guidelines. To impart to the contestants current event information and principles and guidelines of pageant interviews. To work as a liason between the contestants and judging process on the day of the pageant event. To follow up and communite advise and comments back to the contestants after the judging process.  To provide opportunities for group mock interviews to prepare the Miss Brea contestants for the interview portion of the competition. To maintain a list of possible pageant interview questions and distribute to each contestant prior to the interview portion of the competition. To include but not limited to information and guidelines on appropriate interview attire and edicate. To give contestants and future queens tools to sucessfully interview in this portion of the competition. A seasonal position between the time of the preliminary pageant and the Miss Brea Pageant competition.  Involved in working with a maximum of ten contestants up until the actual pageant competition. Involved in working with the queen in preparation for the Miss California Pageant scheduled in June.

* Assistant Director of Evening Gown Competition: To work under the direction of the Executive Director, Producer and Stage Manager to prepare, corrdinate and organize all aspects of the Miss Brea Pageant Evening Gown competition. To interface with each contestant in preparation for the evening gown portion of the Miss Brea Pageant competition. To suggest, train and aquire advise and teaching for the contestants in preparation for this event. To gain an understanding of the Miss California/Miss America evening gown competition and guidelines. To impart to the contestants appropriate attire, stage presence and choreography for this portion of the competition. To work as a liason between the contestants and judging process on the day of the pageant event.   To provide opportunities for group practices to prepare the Miss Brea contestants for the evening gown portion of the competition. To include but not limited to information and guidelines on appropriate attire and stage edicate. To give contestants and future queens tools to sucessfully compete in this portion of the competition.

* Assistant Director of Talent Competition:To work under the direction of the Executive Director, Producer and Stage Manager to prepare, corrdinate and organize all Miss Brea Pageant contestants in the talent portion of the competition. To interface with each contestant in preparation for the contestants best representation in the talent competition. To gain a compete understanding of each contestants talent presentation.  To review and approve each talent presentation as per the guidelines of the Miss California/Miss America Pageants. To gain an understanding of the Miss California/Miss America talent process and guidelines. To work as a liason between the contestants and judging process on the day of the pageant event. To supervise and oversee the preparation practices times of each contestant. To include but not limited to information and guidelines on appropriate talent attire and edicate. To give contestants and future queens tools to sucessfully compete in this portion of the competition. A seasonal position between the time of the preliminary pageant and the Miss Brea Pageant competition.  Involved in working with a maximum of ten contestants up until the actual pageant competition. Involved in working with the queen in preparation for the Miss California Pageant scheduled in June. To coordinate the contestants needs for their talent competition, to include but not limited to lighting, sound, props and mic support.

* Assistant Director of After Production Party: Under the direction of the Executive Director work as a team to organize and create an After Production Party. To coordinate a time line, invitation list, volunteers and donations for the evening event. This position is responsible to establish a team of people to help prepare and impliment the evening event. To include but not limited to location site, tables, menu, invitations, decorations and a guest list data base with mailing labels.

* Assistant Director of Preliminary Pageants: This position is responsible to organize the Preliminary Pageant and contestants under the direction of the Executive Director, Producer and Stage Manager.  There needs to be some preliminary planning for this event.  Each contestant trying out will participate in all aspects of the pageant competitions but on a smaller scale. A location will need to be determined for this event and made known to each contestant. This event will take place after the beginning of the year. This event is where young women from our community will be introduced to the competition process.  They will receive minimal advise and guidelines as to the days events.  They will be given Miss California/Miss America guidelines for the competition process. Talent and all competition attire will need to be preapproved.  At this event a maximum of 10 contestants will be choosen to participate in the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant in the Spring.

* Assistant Director of Swimsuit Competitions: To work under the direction of the Executive Director, Producer and Stage Manager to prepare, corrdinate and organize all aspects of the Miss Brea Pageant Swim Suit competition. To interface with each contestant in preparation for the Swim Suit portion of the Miss Brea Pageant competition. To suggest, train and aquire advise and teaching for the contestants in preparation for this event. To gain an understanding of the Miss California/Miss America Swim Suit competition and guidelines. To impart to the contestants appropriate attire, stage presence and choreography for this portion of the competition. To work as a liason between the contestants and judging process on the day of the pageant event.   To provide opportunities for group practices to prepare the Miss Brea contestants for the Swim Suit portion of the competition. To include but not limited to information and guidelines on appropriate attire and stage edicate. To give contestants and future queens tools to sucessfully compete in this portion of the competition. To visually see each contestants swimsuit prior to competition day.  To provide feed back to the Executive Director as to contestants attire and various aspects of this portion of the competition. To provide feedback to each contestant as to their swimsuit attire and selection. Could include interfacing with the community and swimsuit manufactures for swimsuit donations or purchase of group swimsuit design.

* Assistant Director of Visiting Queens: Responsible to work under the direction of the Executive Director, Producer and Stage Manager.  To maintain a data base or other local Miss California/Miss America affiliates.  To communicate invitations and corrispondence to each affiliate as to up the upcoming pageant schedule.  To maintain a response list to provide to the Executive Director.  Responsible to section off setting in the audience for visiting queens prior to the Miss Brea Pageants evening events. Be available the night of the competition to greet each visiting queen.  To interface with community businesses for possible donations to give to each queen who visits.  Donations could range from a flower arrangement to a gift certificate.  Responcible to coordinate a stage presentation in an assembly line process of all visiting queens the evening of the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant. Responsible to send out thank you cards directly following the evening competition to each visiting queen.  And a card to each queen not able to attend, to communicate that we missed them.

* Assistant Director of Program & Advertisting: Responsible to work under the direction of the Executive Director. Will work together to create and impliment all aspects of the Miss Brea Pageant program to include advertising and printing. Will gain understanding of all Miss California/Miss America guidelines for pageant programs. Will maintain a data base of past and present program advertisers. To interface with Assitant Director of Advertising, Assistant Director of Fundraising, Assistant Director of Public Relations and Assistant Director of Scholarships for a mailing list of possible advertisers. Will interface with pageant photographer for contestant portrates to be included in the pageant program. To allow purchase by parents, friends and contestant sponsors to purchase program space. Responsible to organize a team of volunteers to sell and distribute programs the day of the Miss Brea Pageant event. May include organizing and developing a team of volunteers to seek community support in advertising, and putting programs together.

* Assistant Director of On Stage Questions: Responsible to work under the direction of the Executive Director, Producer and Stage Manager as to the preparation and implimentation of this portion of the pageant competition. Will gain an understanding of Miss California/Miss America guidelines for On Stage Questions. To impart to the contestants what to expect during this portion of the competition based upon the knowledge gained from the Miss California/Miss America guidelines. Will help create a data base of possible questionsResponsible to work with the contestants in preparation for the question presentation and choreography of the On Stage Question portion of the competition.

 

Administrative Volunteers:

* Co-Director Administrator: Responsible to work directly with the Executive Director to organize and oversee all administrative needs. To coordinate all volunteer administrative staff and report back to the Executive Director. To act as the administrative liason. Includes managing administrative staff under the direction of the Executive Director.

* Treasure: Responsible to manage and oversee the financial aspects of the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant under the direction of the Executive Director. To create and maintain a bookkeeping system and provide monthly reports to the Co-Director of Administration and the Executive Director. To maintain the pageant bank accounts for all pageant activities. To include but not limited to scholarships, donations, advertising, and vendor services.

* Assistant Director of Donations: Responsible to work under the direction of the Executive Director and Administrator to interface with the community to seek donations from businesses, organizations and individuals to fund pageant activities, production and scholarships. To manage a team of volunteers and through phone calls, personal visits and mailers establish relationships with individuals, companies and organization that will donate to the Miss Brea Pageant. Donations include monitary and in-kind donations.

* Assistant Director of Contestant   Relations: Responsible to work under the direction of the Executive Director and the Administrator to interface with the citizens of the City of Brea and get the word out.  This is a PR job. It includes making flyers, public service announcements, news reports and visits to reach the populous of Brea's businesses, homes and schools with the knowledge of the Miss Brea Pageant with the motivation of aquireing contestants. To provide appropriate documentation and applications to potential contestants and support the follow through of getting the contestants application.  It includes but is not limited to follow up calls, reminders and mailers to potential contestants as to up coming deadlines and pageant activities. 

* Assistant Director of Judges: Responsible to work under the direction of the Executive Director and Administrator to organize and serve the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant judges. This includes all pageant and preliminary pageant judging. All judges will be preapproved, certified through the Miss California/Miss America Pageant Organization. Judging guidelines are set though the Miss California/Miss America Organization and handed down to the local affiliates. Responsible to gain knowledge and understanding of Miss California/Miss America Pageant guidelines for judges and judging.  Responsible to corrdinate, organize and oversee service for pageant judges on the day of all competitions, both pageant and preliminary pageant competitions.

* Assistant Director of Parades & Floats: Responsible to work under the direction of the Executive Director to create the Miss Brea Pageant floats. To coordiante and interface with community opportunities to participate in parades in and out of the City of Brea. To include seeking sponsorship and funding from the community and businesses to support the fabrication, storage and transportation of the Miss Brea floats. To organize, manage and oversee a team of volunteers to build and develope the Miss Brea floats. To manage a parade events calendar and stay in contact with Executive Director as to time lines, status and expectations.

* Assistant Director of Scholarships: Under the supervision and direction of the Executive Director and Administrator establish a form of records for scholarships. Coordinate and interface with the community to aquire funds to support the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant  fund. Report status of fund on a monthly basis back to the Administrator & Executive Director. Serve as a liason between the pageant and scholarship donors. Serve as a liason between pageant and scholarship recipents.  Gain knowledge and understanding of Miss California/Miss America rules & guidelines for scholarship qualifications & dispersement. Maintain scholarship records, forms and applications.

* Assistant Director of Public Relations: Under the direction of the Executive Director and Administrator act as a liason between the pageant and the public.  Make appointments, new advertisments, radio announcements and the public aware of the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant. Interface with public officials, businesses and the community as to who and what the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant stands for and how it benefits the community at large.  Make known the current and future events of the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant to the public through various preapproved mediums. Submit all information, paperwork, letters, pictures and video corrispondence for preapproval to the Executive Director prior to publishing or making public.

* Assistant Director of Advertising: Under the direction of the Executive Director and Administrator this position is responsible for all incoming advertising media.  Responsible to aquire advertising support from local businesses, families and organizations to help support and fund the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant. Coordinate and over see all aspects of incoming advertising support and paperwork.  Can involved organizing and maintaining a team of volunteers.

* Assistant Director of Fundraising: Under the direction of the Executive Director and Administrator this position is responsible to seek out and aquire funds through means of fundraising opportunities.  To maintain files of fundraising opportunities for the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant. To interface with fundraising organizations and make presentations to the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant staff and contestants. To support and provide all appropriate documentation to involved individuals for each fundraiser opportunity.  To manage and oversee each fundraising operation from beginning to end and present a status report to the Executive Director and Administrator monthly. Can involve organizing and maintaining a team of volunteers.

* Assistant Director of Queen Activities: Under the direction of the Executive Director and Administrator this position involves coordinating outside activities to give the Miss Brea queen opportunity to represent her platform, speak publicly and entertain.  This position should interface with different organizations, clubs, schools and businesses that parallel the values and standards of the Miss California/Miss America image in scheduling activities that the Miss Brea queen would be involved in. The position involves an understanding of the current queens platform and talents.  This position should not act independantly of the Executive Director or Administrator but as a team player to create and organize opportunities for the best interest of the current queen and Miss Brea/Miss California/Miss America pageants on a whole. To maintain a calendar of events, appointments and opportunities. To coordinate with a chaperone appropriate supervision for each activity.  To aquire approval from the Executive Director, Administrator and queen prior to commiting or scheduling any queen activity. To include but not limited to attending, Chamber Mixers, Brea Fairs, Parades, Grand Openings, Ribbon Cuttings and other local sister pageant visitations.

* Assistant Director of Contestant Activities: Under the direction of the Executive Director and Administrator this position involves coordinating outside activities to give the Miss Brea contestants opportunity to represent the pageant and pageant contestants on a whole, speak publicly and entertain.  This position should interface with different organizations, clubs, schools and businesses that parallel the values and standards of the Miss California/Miss America image in scheduling activities that the Miss Brea contestants would be involved in. This position should not act independantly of the Executive Director or Administrator but as a team player to create and organize opportunities for the best interest of the contestants and Miss Brea/Miss California/Miss America pageants on a whole. To coordinate chaperone appropriate supervisions for each activity.  To aquire approval from the Executive Director, Administrator and contestants prior to commiting or scheduling any activity. To include but not limited to attending, Chamber Mixers, Brea Fairs, Parades, Grand Openings and Ribbon Cuttings.

* Assistant Director of Grooming, Charm and edicate. Under the Direction of the Executive Director to work directly with each contestant and queen to teach, coordinate and organize group and individual education for the Miss Brea contestants and queen in the areas of charm, poise, grooming and edicate.  To interface with educators and appropriate organizations in our community to teach and educate the Miss Brea contestants and queen in these areas. To coordinate meeting times and scheduling for teaching and training of contestants and queen. To include but not limited to the preparation for all phases of pageant competition. To work for the best interest of each contestant and queen under appropriate pageant guidelines. To aquire donations, grants and scholarships from business and organizations for the participation in various educational options having to do with teaching contestants and queens in these personal interest areas. Can involve maintaining and organizing a team of volunteers.

 

* Tea: Responsible to organize an afternoon tea.  At this event the goal is to introduce the choosen 10 contestants to the Brea community, officials and sponsors.  The first year this event will be organized comletely through volunteer support.  In subsiquent years, the out going queen will be responsible to work along with a team of volunteers to coordinate this event in appreciation for all the community support she has received through her reign as queen. There will be a need or a data base, invitation preparation, and community support for donations for the days event. There will be a need to interface with the newspaper and Assistant Director of Public Relations to get the word out and representation in the media of the days events.

* Chaperone (1): Responsible to escort the queen and her court to daytime events.

* Chaperone (2): Responsible to escort the queen and her court to evening events.

* Chaperone (3): Responsible to escort the queen to the Miss California Pageant in Fresno, Ca in June. This position involves the over night obligation to accompany Miss Brea to all Miss California events during the state competition.

* Official Pageant Photographer: Responsible to work under the direction of the Executive Director.  To surrender all negitives and photographs to the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant Association. All photos become the property of the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant Association. The Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant reserves the right to decide how all pictures will be dispersed or destroyed. The Official Pageant Photographer is responsible to maintain all photos privately.  Responsible to never release photos to the general public or any individual.  This volunteer is responsible to work as a team  and not independantly of the Executive Director as to the posession of Miss Brea contestants or Miss Brea queen pictures. This volunteer will provide 16 x 24 portrates for each contestant at the Miss Brea Pageant in Spring. This volunteer is permited to advertise there name and contact information on all offical pageant pictures. This volunteer will be given permission to set up a table at the Miss Brea Pageant to advertise there services, price list, flyers, business cards and company information. This volunteer may advertise as the official photographer of the Miss Brea Scholarship Pageant.
